Photovoltaic skylight and platform canopies
The photovoltaic installation made for the Integrated Communication Center (ICC) in Lublin is one of the largest BIPV (building-integrated photovoltaic) installations in Europe.
The glass-to-glass photovoltaic panels, with a total area of nearly 6,500 m2 and a capacity of more than 500 kWp, are unique not only for their size and power, but also for their unusual appearance and technical qualities.
The ICC bus station in Lublin is a modernist building, the realization of which managed to meet all the requirements for public buildings these days. The station’s roof is supported by cup-shaped pillars that may bring to mind the tangled crowns of trees. Thus, openwork supports and glass have become characteristic of the new facility. The large glazing gives it lightness, but also allows it to realize the objectives of sustainable construction, especially in terms of being low-emission, functional and producing energy from a modern photovoltaic system.
In the skylight glazing and glazing of the platform canopies, we installed nearly 1,800 glass-to-glass photovoltaic panels, for which we used monocrystalline photovoltaic cells arranged in such a way as to allow sunlight to penetrate into the canopies. What’s more, one of the panes of photovoltaic laminate is a heating pane, which, combined with an automation system, has created the ICE-OFF function, so that at sub-zero temperatures layers of snow or ice can be automatically melted by the heating system.
In addition, led lighting has been integrated inside the photovoltaic panels, which gives the entire installation extraordinary visual appeal after dark. With the mentioned lighting, the modern look of the panels is further accentuated by the surface engraving arranged in a cohesive pattern, an extremely intriguing element of the designers’ architectural vision.
Yields, the ability to control lighting and the ICE-OFF function can be monitored from our proprietary software FEMS – FIBRAIN Energy Management System, which we developed for the project.
In view of the above, the implementation of the ICC Station, due to its complexity and size, is undoubtedly a showcase from the area of renewable energy implementation of the entire FIBRAIN Group.
